MIU Athletics Announces Launch of Women’s Soccer Program and Hires Taylor Cool as Head Coach
Maharishi International University Athletics is proud to announce the launch of its Women’s Soccer program, with competition set to begin in Fall 2026. Alongside this historic addition to Pioneer Athletics, MIU has named Taylor Cool as the first Head Coach in program history.
The introduction of Women's Soccer marks an important moment for MIU Athletics as the university continues to expand opportunities for student-athletes and strengthen its athletic offerings. Coach Cool has already begun recruiting prospective student-athletes, laying the foundation for the program's inaugural season.
Cool joins MIU with a strong and diverse coaching background across the collegiate, high school, and club levels. Most recently, he served as Lead Assistant Coach at Trine University, working under USL League One professional coach Mike Avery. During the 2024 season, Cool played a key role in the most successful year in Trine men's soccer history, helping guide the Thunder to their first-ever MIAA regular-season championship and an appearance in the MIAA Conference Tournament Championship match. His emphasis on player development contributed to a program-record six All-Conference selections.
Prior to his time at Trine, Cool spent the 2023 season as Head Coach at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, where he led the Bengals to an 8-4-1 record and a run to the USCAA National Semifinals, finishing the season ranked No. 3 nationally. Under his leadership, UMFK was ranked No. 1 in the country for six consecutive weeks. That season also produced four All-American selections, and the Bengals led the USCAA in both goals per game and shots per game. One of Cool's players, DeAndre Smith, earned a call-up to the Grenada Senior National Team's 2026 World Cup Qualifier camp.
In total, Cool brings seven seasons of collegiate coaching experience, including two seasons as a head coach, along with eight additional years at the high school and club levels. His most recent high school season concluded with an undefeated conference championship, further underscoring his ability to build competitive programs and develop talent at every level.
When asked about joining MIU Athletics, Cool expressed excitement about the opportunity to build something new.
"MIU Athletics presents a unique and exciting opportunity to build a program from the ground up, which is something I find incredibly motivating," said Coach Cool. "The challenge of establishing culture, standards, and long-term success from day one is exactly the type of environment where I thrive."
With recruiting already underway, MIU Women's Soccer is focused on assembling a competitive roster and establishing a strong culture ahead of its first season in Fall 2026.
"I also believe MIU has the foundation in place, through its leadership, resources, and vision, to grow the entire athletic program at a strong and sustainable pace," Taylor said. "The opportunity to help shape that growth while building a competitive soccer program is something I'm genuinely excited about."
Additional announcements regarding recruiting opportunities, camps, and program updates will be shared in the coming months.
